APRIL 2007 Arrival of the DEVON AIR AMBULANCE TRUST BOLKOW 105 pictured here on the launch day, Paramedics, Pilot , Head of the Trust Lyn Paver and Barry Pearson owner of Eaglescott Airfield.
In 2005 the Airfield was approached by Bond Helicopters the operator of the Devon Air Ambulance Helicopter at that time, seeking a home for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT). In 2007 the DAAT’s Bolkow Helicopter moved into the Flying Club’s Hangar at Eaglescott and after a two year planning process with North Devon Council the DAAT built their new hangar and operation facility on land donated by the Airfield. The Devon Air Ambulance Trust relocated from the Airfield’s hangar to their new facility on 21st December 2009.
Eaglescott Airfield also donated a 125year lease for the use of the Airfield, so the Trust has a completely ‘Free operating base’.
5th April 2022 marked the 15th Anniversary of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust operating from Eaglescott Airfield. The Trust now provides not only the Helicopter but also a ‘Critical Care’ car for use by the Paramedics all year round when the Air Ambulance is unavailable due to scheduled maintenance or inclement weather. Therefore all the farming community and residents of the neighbouring parishes now have an ambulance both on land and in the air within minutes of their homes.
A fantastic asset right on their doorstep at EAGLESCOTT AIRFIELD.
A facility which must be the envy of other parishes within Devon.
