Eaglescott Airfield was established in 1983.
The Airfield was approved by the British Gliding Association for the launching of Gliders by Winch and Aerotow as a Full Member club of the BGA.
In addition, the Airfield was approved by the BGA, for training in all classes of Motor Glider and from June 1983 training commenced using a GROB 109A for the training of Pilots towards a United Kingdom Private Pilots Licence on Self-Launching Motor Gliders.

Work took place during the period 1985 to 1987 to comply with the Civil Aviation Authority requirements, detailed in CAP 168, in order to obtain a Civil Aviation Authority Special Category Aerodrome Licence. Eaglescott Airfield became the only CAA Licensed grass Aerodrome in Devon.
The CAA Special Category Licence granted, allowed for the training of all types of Aircraft governed by the CAA. To include all Single Engine Piston, Single Engine Turbine, Twin Engine Piston and Twin Engine Turbine Aircraft.
This entitled Eaglescott Airfield to be used by any aircraft, or any operator whether they be permanently based at Eaglescott or any other UK Airfield.
The Civil Aviation Authority classification of Aircraft is sub-divided such that this means Eaglescott Airfield can be used for training or otherwise by any;

LEARNING TO FLY
Like an eaglet, when it's tossed Out of the eagle's nest, Catch me, when I'm falling down, When my world is spinning round, Catch, before I hit the ground And save me from the dust And when you toss me out again To try my eaglet wings, As the wind is screaming by, When there's water in my eye And the earth is rushing nigh, Please lift me in your wings Swoop and hold me, catch, enfold me And lift me in your wings by Jill James
